Dangerous Magic - Samantha Hunter My review cross-posted from Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/new-reviews/dangerous-magic-by-samantha-hunter

Political reporter Nathan doesn’t believe in magic…or so he tells himself. So when he gets stuck doing a puff piece for The Salem Chronicle about witches, he’s none too happy about it. Then, at a local Wicca shop, Nathan spots a woman he doesn’t know, but who he’s been seeing in his nightmares.

Gwen is a witch who has been a bit lax in her training, but she absolutely believes in the supernatural. Still, she’s skeptical about Nathan’s claims that he’s been having dreams about them being lovers…and about her dying. Until it becomes clear that there’s more to Nathan than meets the eye. Soon, the pair are working together to solve the mystery of Nathan’s nightmares. They also give into the powerful attraction between them. But will the happiness Gwen finds in Nathan’s arms ultimately lead to her death?

The aptly-titled Dangerous Magic is a sexy, hexy book that is quite entertaining. The skeptic and the witch aren’t an unusual pairing as far as storytelling goes, but Samantha Hunter breathes fresh life into the archetypal pairing. Nathan has good reasons for not wanting to believe in magic, though I won’t spoil what they are. Aside from his aversion to the paranormal, he’s the perfect match for Gwen, who’s a heroine anyone would love to have for a friend. The attraction between these two keeps Dangerous Magic red-hot, even as danger from an unseen threat lurks in the background.

Dangerous Magic is a spinoff of a previous book of Ms. Hunter’s, Virtually Perfect, but readers who haven’t read that story won’t be lost. Still, after reading Dangerous Magic, I went and bought Virtually Perfect so I could have another book of Ms. Hunter’s to enjoy.
