For years, Jack has secretly wanted his best friend Emma. He doesn’t want to ruin their friendship by chasing after her, especially when he’s sure that she’ll never want to submit to him. But when Emma needs him, Jack is there. Even when what she needs him for is to play the part of a lusty pirate as part of a fetish fantasy being staged at the nightclub she manages. Jack agrees, and is delighted when further problems at the club lead to Emma filling in as his leading lady. One night on stage changes everything for the both of them. Jack knows he and Emma can never go back to the way things were, especially once Jack discovers that Emma’s desires aren’t as far off from his own as he’d once thought.

Black Jack is wicked eroticism at its best! Mari Carr has spun a fantastic tale of fetish, fantasy, and friendship blossoming into love. Jack and Emma are wonderfully likeable characters who’ve always cared about one another but have never been sure enough of themselves or each other to take that step that would alter their relationship. With some behind-the-scenes help of the duo’s other best friend, Travis, Jack and Emma are thrown into a situation that pushes their desires to the forefront, leaving them no room to hide. I loved both the sensual and romantic chemistry between Jack and Emma and it was easy to fall into their story. Ms. Carr made me care about these two, and I practically devoured Black Jack in my haste to see this pair get their happily ever after.

Black Jack is the first Scoundrels book and boy, oh boy, does Ms. Carr have me on the edge of my seat for Travis’s book. While I wait for the heartbreakingly isolated Travis to find a love of his own, I’ll happily sit back and enjoy the piratical Jack seducing his “captive” Emma over and over again.
