Lord of Rage - Jill Monroe My review is posted on Joyfully Reviewed: http://www.joyfullyreviewed.com/new-reviews/lord-of-rage-by-jill-monroe

Princess Breena of Elden grew up with the idea that it was her role in life to marry well. However, rather than contemplating political alliances, Breena dreams of a virile warrior. But when the Blood Sorcerer attacks her home and murders her parents, Breena is cast into the forest of Ursa, a clan whose warriors are tied to the spirit of bears. Lost, confused, and filled only with the need to survive and avenge her parents’ deaths, Breena stumbles into the path of Osborn, the warrior of her dreams.

Osborn is no stranger to vengeance. Eight years ago, most of his family was murdered by vampires. For a time, Osborn worked as a mercenary, but his sword is no longer for hire. When he finds the golden-haired beauty of his dreams sleeping in his bed, Osborn can’t believe his luck. But Breena wants something Osborn is determined not to give. Can there be any hope for a warrior and a fairytale princess with one goal in mind?

Jill Monroe takes “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” and puts her own clever twist on it in the sensual second installment to the Royal House of Shadows quartet. Lord of Rage is a fast-paced, entertaining journey into a land of myth and magic, where witches, vampires, and berserkers are real.

Breena is a princess who was raised to fulfill the role she was born into, nothing more, nothing less. When her family is taken from her and she is cast into the forest, Breena doesn’t whine about it or act the helpless victim. No, she does what she can to survive and that made me respect her. I also liked her, and Osborn, whose prickly exterior covers a warm and loving heart. Osborn’s a fierce warrior, but he’s got a code of honor and a caring side that make him oh-so-appealing.

Lord of Rage is the second story in the multi-author Royal House of Shadows continuity. Though all the stories should be read, as they are leading up to an inevitable battle between good and evil, there’s no reason you can’t read Lord of Rage before the first book in the series, Gena Showalter’s Lord of the Vampires. The only confusing point for me in Lord of Rage was the timeline of the story. The timeline of Lord of Rage doesn’t seem (at least in the edition I have) to match the timeline of the other books. Though this bothered me a bit, in the end I glossed over it and simply enjoyed Breena and Osborn’s romance. I also delighted in seeing more of the intriguing world Jill Monroe, Gena Showalter, Jessica Andersen, and Nalini Singh have created. Lord of the Rage was an overall satisfying read and I finished it more than ready to dive into the third Royal House of Shadows book, Jessica Andersen’s Lord of the Wolfyn.
